Jana Martínez .. capri

Jana Martínez (2003) is a Barcelona-based artist whose multidisciplinary practice moves between audiovisual work, set design, textiles, and creative direction. Her work is driven by an ongoing exploration of materials, aesthetics, and personal narratives, allowing her practice to constantly evolve through processes of experimentation, modification, and refinement.

She recently graduated in Fine Arts from BAU, Centre Universitari d’Arts i Disseny de Barcelona. During her studies, she completed an Erasmus exchange programme in Fine Arts at Kingston University in London in 2024. Previously, she studied Fashion Design at IED Barcelona during the 2021–2022 academic year, an experience that continues to inform her interest in textiles, the body, and materiality.

Jana Martínez (2003) es una artista afincada en Barcelona cuya práctica multidisciplinar se mueve entre el trabajo audiovisual, el diseño de sets, el textil y la dirección creativa. Su trabajo parte de una exploración constante de los materiales, la estética y las narrativas personales, permitiendo que su práctica evolucione a través de procesos de experimentación, transformación y desarrollo.

Recientemente se graduó en Bellas Artes por BAU, Centre Universitari d’Arts i Disseny de Barcelona. Durante sus estudios realizó un programa de intercambio Erasmus en Bellas Artes en Kingston University, Londres, en 2024. Anteriormente, estudió Diseño de Moda en IED Barcelona durante el curso 2021–2022, una experiencia que continúa influyendo en su interés por los textiles, el cuerpo y la materialidad.

DESCRIPTION

img2obj explores taste not as a fixed quality, but as an ongoing process of selection, interpretation and association. The project investigates how visual references accumulated over time can unconsciously shape the way we look, select and assign value to what surrounds us.

The research draws a parallel between historical cabinets of curiosities and the contemporary experience of constantly accumulating digital images. Although separated by centuries and radically different contexts, both operate through the same fundamental gesture: selecting fragments, establishing connections between them and constructing a personal system of meaning.

Following this logic, the project takes the form of a contemporary personal cabinet centred around skin and textile. These materials become a way of connecting ideas of identity, the body and memory, while also providing a physical language through which the collected references can be transformed.

Rather than starting from predetermined forms, the pieces emerge through a process of experimentation, association and material exploration. Images are translated into objects, allowing an intuitive and largely unconscious process of constructing taste to become visible.

The project ultimately forms an open cycle between the digital and the physical: images generate objects, while the resulting objects are photographed and returned to the digital world as new images and references.
